Dear SUMMER BREEZE Community,

the finalists for the NEW BLOOD AWARD 2010, who complete the billing for this year’s SUMMER BREEZE Open Air 2010, have been announced!

Despite the planned five participants, there will be six bands competing against each other instead. The reason being that the result of the voting was so close that we had to get a sixth band into the finals. The following six underground bands got the most votes from you in our recent online voting:

Those who wonder who or what exactly is the SURPRISE ACT due to appear on the Main Stage at 20:10 will unfortunately have to wait until that very date and time! A surprise is a surprise and shouldn’t be spoiled in advance! Let us just say this much: There hasn’t been a performance like this at any German metal festival ever before! Be prepared for an intense show, even without heavy riffs!

Due to current events (Football World Cup, endless discussions in our forum), please be advised that vuvuzelas are not allowed on the whole festival site (camp site + concert area)! We can’t think of one positive effect the allowance of this “instrument” would have on SUMMER BREEZE. Let the guitars do the talking instead of some unnerving horns. Those who wish to sleep at the camp site should also be able to. So please leave your vuvuzelas at home, as our security personnel has been instructed to confiscate and dispose of them. The time has come! The first bands are confirmed for SUMMER BREEZE 2010! We are stoked to announce that the following acts will put your heads into permanent rotation from August 19 to 21:

HYPOCRISY
You’ve had to wait long for HYPOCRISY! Now they’re finally back! After their last album, 2005′s ‘Virus’, mastermind Peter Tägtgren had decided on a self-imposed break. Which is fortunately over now! Their new album, the brutal ‘A Taste Of Extreme Divinity’, will be released on October 23rd and doesn’t need to fear comparisons to landmarks such as ‘The Final Chapter’ or ‘Hypocrisy’. Quite the opposite: Today HYPOCRISY are more powerful than they ever were. Judging by the band requests for 2010 that have reached us over the last few months, the Swedes and their anthemic-melodic death metal still rank high among your favorites, even after such a lengthy hiatus. HYPOCRISY will thank you for it with an omnipotent performance – tons of classics and new material included!

SUBWAY TO SALLY
SUBWAY TO SALLY have become somewhat of a permanent fixture at SUMMER BREEZE. With their first appearance dating as far back as the year 2000, 2010 will mark their fifth already. They love the festival, and you love them, especially their music! Not only is the band from Potsdam one of the main acts in medieval rock, they belong to the very elite of hard music altogether. Proof enough is the sensational chart entry of their latest album ‘Kreuzfeur’, which made it to position number 5 in Germany, following hot on the heels of its predecessors ‘Bastard’, ‘Nord Nord Ost’ and ‘Engelskrieger’. DARK TRANQUILLITY
DARK TRANQUILLITY don’t really require much of an introduction. They started the Gothenburg melodic death metal movement along with In Flames and At The Gates in the early 90s, the effects of which can still be noticed in many a popular young band today. You can look forward to a “Best of” setlist with tons of hits from classic albums such as ‘The Gallery’, ‘The Mind’s I’ or ‘Damage Done’, all of which are prime examples of the melodic death metal sound. Dear SUMMER BREEZE Community,

The summer of 2009 is gone! It was a consistently nice one with few rainy downs and plenty of sunny ups! One of them obviously being SUMMER BREEZE 2009, which has entered the festival annals as the most successful edition so far. Great bands, mainly perfect festival weather, a completely new traffic concept which proved to work flawlessly, sparing you the massive traffic jam of 2008, and especially the following two things made SUMMER BREEZE 2009 an unforgettable experience: a totally relaxed atmosphere and you, our super chilled-out festivalgoers! A big huge thank you goes out to you all! Without you, all of this wouldn’t be possible!

Now the time has come to look forward again, as the preparations for SUMMER BREEZE 2010 are in full swing. www.summer-breeze.de has been completely revamped! Also the ticket pre-sales for SUMMER BREEZE 2010 have just started. In our webshop (www.silverdust-shop.de) you can get a 3-day ticket for 70.- Euros (66.- Euros plus pre-sale fee)! Same as last year, the first 10,000 tickets will get a free DVD on top! This time with live footage and impressions from SUMMER BREEZE 2008! In closing, a few words about your criticism of the 2009 festival, which we will obviously take into high consideration when planning SUMMER BREEZE 2010. The gravel surfaces in front of each stage were only a temporary solution. This will be worked out properly in 2010. Also next year the campground will be made up exclusively of meadows. No one will have to build their tents on uneven fields. We also want to improve the service at the Infopoint, which was implemented for the first time in 2009. Your complaints about any problems will reach us more quickly, allowing us to react faster and better.

Last but not least, we’d like to draw your attention towards two events that should shorten the wait until SUMMER BREEZE 2010! On October 23 and 24 the SUNDOWN FESTIVAL will take place at the Körhalle in Gaildorf (with  ILL NINO, RAGE, END OF GREEN, EQUILIBRIUM and POWERWOLF, among others). All further infos and the form to order tickets can be found on www.sundownfestival.de!

In the middle of the metallic winter, the LKA in Stuttgart will host the WINTER FREEZE 2010. Confirmed bands are KATAKLYSM, ELUVEITIE, MAROON and HACKNEYED, among others. All further info can be found on www.winter-freeze.de! See you there…

First overall impression : crowded and well organized ! People had no trouble to get anywhere on the site, and I can even say that toilets were clean ! Sooo let me summerize that : good music + happy people + food + drinks + toilets = best festival Honestly, the euphoria was palpable, the sun was here, people were parked correctly and joking all around, shopping or staying at their car…

Then, the bands. The names on the running order were  promising ! Sharing the Pain and Main stages there were Wall of Jericho, Kreator, Vader, Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Life of Agony, Opeth (despite their sound problem on stage), Moonspell, Volbeat, Epica, The Haunted … many names that have a special sound in my ears. The sound of creativity and charisma on stage, the sound of pleasure of being on stage in front of thousands of fans… Those bands really know how to deal with large crowds ! Some « less-known » bands were in the Party Tent were nevertheless really astonishing ! Great shows of Secret of the Moon, Ghost Brigade, Cynic, Hackneyed, Razor of Occam, Anaal Nathrakh, One Way Miror… just to name those ones. Very nice discoveries, because of course I didn’t know all of them.

The only drawback I have about the festival is related to some details of my photographer’s experience. I found that the photo pit of the Main stage was too narrow for the height of the stage (I’m not even sure the first rows in the crowd could see a lot more than I did), that explains the few pictures I got from bands on that stage. I’ll try to get a zoom for next year !!

I’m really hoping that the pictures I shot at the festival will please your eyes and talk to your soul, whispering : next year : COME !

Feel free to comment the pictures ! As you can see, this year I posted Ambiance / People pictures as well as bands pictures ! Maybe you talked to me at the festival, and I gave you my website address… maybe not ! The Ambiance on the festival is the main reason I keep coming back at the Summer Breeze, even though the first bands announcements for the 2010 edition is already hot ! You’ll know more in time, but in the meanwhile, stay tuned !!!!
